We like to think that after this project, we’re ready to take part in the next Transformers movie. Joking aside, we were responsible for working on the planes’ transformation in the first shot, from designing the transformations to modifying the plane models, rigging, and animating the entire sequence.

The piece runs over 2 minutes and involves the talented collaboration of several production companies, with Aparato from Uruguay bringing us into the project.
Making of
The work required extensive planning to ensure all the pieces worked together during the various transformations. A key part of this planning involved solving everything from the general to the specific. The first step was to ensure the narrative timing requested by the directors, and then progressively refine the work until reaching the individual details of each animated element.
First animatic
Made with the sole purpose of evaluating the narrative timing in the fastest and most cost-effective way possible.
First transformation tests
The fuselage was divided into segments to be individually modified and then animated together with the adjacent sections.
Second plane preview and livery transformation
The animation ends with a transformation of the livery of the last plane, which involved animating the 2D design applied to the 3D fuselage.
Full transformation test render
This was the last iteration prior to the animation's approval and the subsequent look development and final rendering of the sequence.
